Ray Hicks was America’s most celebrated master storyteller. In the 70s and 80s he was the inspiration for the revival of storytelling in the United States. His gift for yarn spinning past to him, through generations of Hicks and Harmons, all the way back to the 1770s. He was known throughout the world for saving his grandfather’s and great grandfather’s traditional tales about a boy named Jack. Ray experienced twenty-five years as a the star of the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, TN. The crowds loved hearing his Appalachian dialect, although Ray often commented that he suffered from “Stage Fever.” This book was written from a collection of childhood stories that Ray told the author.
